Astrology divided into two parts - Calculative and Predictive
A) Calculative Part: In this part birth details of a person- date of birth, time and place are gathered and then position of planets at the time of birth of a person is calculated using some astronomical calculation.
A Panchang or ephemeries was used for this purpose earlier but nowadays many computer softwares available in market or on internet to do this job. A horoscope is generated after filling some details which consist so many divisional charts and dashas, etc.
B) Predictive Part: In predictive astrology, a person consult with an Astrologer. Astrologer analyse the person's horoscope and tries to predict about the person's life from various point of views like education, job, career, marriage, health, child birth, financial status etc.
Prediction of event by means of astrology may be classified under the following six divisions:
1. Mundane: Dealing with Celestial phenomena like eclipses, planetary conjunctions, new effects on nations, countries etc.
2. Annual Forecast: Used for foretelling the weather, agricultural outlook, and other matters from the nature of the planets presiding over each of them in the annual horoscope cast for the new (Equinoctial) year.
3. Natal Astrology: Very Interesting and complicated. It foretells the character, destiny and other matters about a persons from the rising sign (Ascendant) and the Planetary configurations, aspects, etc. at the time of birth.
4. Transit System: This describes the effects produced on individuals by the transit of planets and the aspects formed with reference to their radical positions. This can be deal with short period only.
5. Horary System: Delas with the horoscope prepared at the time some question is pot to the astrologer and predictions based on that. These are for the immediate future.
6. Electional System: Deals with selection of right time for any business or function. The conditions and positions of celestial bodies at a selected moment have a significant influence on a person's activity.
The basic principle of this system is that according to the good or bad influence due to their positions in the heavens and with reference to the ascendant at the time of the commencing any undertaking, the celestial bodies cause success are failure, joy or sorrow, profit or loss etc.
